Dreamer. Poet. Builder. Derrick Carr is a poet, programmer, and lover of communication. He grew up in the Bay Area and left for a while to earn a B.A. from Yale University in black people and fly cultural production. His written work focuses on the imagining of new worlds and mythologies and the re-envisioning of classics through a contemporary (usually black) lens. Technologically, he’s interested in the intersections of art and technology. His best days in any field, are those where he asks questions that reframe people’s assumptions. Once, a woman he’d just met turned to her friend to say “Girl, let me hold your plate so you can get one of these hugs.”
